“Belinda Mello is genius at her craft. When it comes to melding the craft of acting with an open expressive instrument I can think of no one I have ever worked with who has helped me more than Belinda. She enables me to unlock those places where I would get in the way of the energy, emotion and life that is flowing through me from moment to moment, whether it be for the camera, for the stage or in life. “One of the most impactful things I did while preparing for “Joan Joyce” was going to my Alexander Teacher, Belinda Mello, for coaching and movement support. Not only is Belinda an extremely gifted practitioner of the Alexander Technique, she is also wonderful at helping actors connect movement, thought, and awareness in ways that are simple and powerful.
Over the course of “Joan Joyce”, I play six different supporting characters, and I wanted to clearly differentiate them without distracting from the story. I had been trying to give the characters individual stances or mannerisms, but I found this made me feel restricted and uncomfortable onstage. After a few minutes of watching me work, Belinda said, “I think there are differences in how these characters relate to space.” And immediately the world opened up. One character exists in a large, expansive space; one thinks of himself as being in a box separate from other characters; one (a kid) lives in a world that is bouncy. Suddenly, the characters became dynamic, and I could listen and respond freely because I was no longer forcing myself into limiting physical shapes that presupposed how the characters moved and acted.
I’ve gone to Belinda for support on a number of projects over the years, and one of the things I love about working with her is that we’re always trying to find a “way in” that works for that particular role. Often we’re working in a completely different manner than the way in which we approached the last project. We have discussions about the role’s function in the script, the director’s vision, the story’s time period, or the character’s worldview while always tying everything to movement. It’s an incredibly exciting process of exploration and discovery.”
Me the People (Off-Broadway)
Kyra Leroux, Actor/Dancer/Singer
“Belinda’s passion for movement and human connection is inspiring. Her compassion, curiosity, and playfulness facilitate deep exploration and vulnerability each session. While working with Belinda, I feel safe and empowered to explore and access new parts of myself which have led to a new kind of inner freedom. She has opened my mind to new ways of thinking about my body within space, as well as given me tools to access emotions within my body that I’ve immediately integrated into my work as an actor and my life. If you’re interested in feeling energized, creatively inspired, open, and confident, I highly recommend working with Belinda. “

“My experiences and learnings of AT [Alexander Technique] remain a beautiful constant in my life, even when not practicing daily. Through Belinda’s teachings I’ve been able to create a foundation of ease, presence, and intention in my body, which is the main tool of my artistry.”
John Backstrom, Writer/Director/Actor
“Training with Belinda gave me so many practical tools to use in my work, as well as a better understanding of my whole "bio-psycho-social" self. Belinda's AT training not only changed how I approach my work, but it changed how I move through life. The work can seem a little confusing or vague at first, but Belinda's playful, practical, holistic approach made it feel accessible, especially because she nurtures such a supportive, thoughtful, and curious environment. I think I started working with Belinda because I wanted to become more aware of my unconscious habits, both physical and behavioral. What I gained was a much deeper understanding of my whole self; a renewed sense of agency over how I show up in the world and in my work. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't utilize some aspect of what I learned through training with Belinda.”
Kim Savarino, Actor, Dancer, & Choreographer
"Alexander Technique has helped me find ease, flow, and responsiveness in my work and life. AT has been incredibly supportive on set, on stage, and in auditions — through my work with Belinda, I can easily connect to my body and my artistry. Studying AT allows me to focus on my craft (instead of on nerves, tension, or anxiety!) and is endlessly useful in my work as an actor and dancer."
Andrew Boszhardt, Actor/Writer/Producer
“I came to Belinda when I was fresh to acting and immediately found our work made me more present, embodied, and imaginative. Some days we do animal work. Other days we work through an audition or focus on releasing habitual tension. Our sessions are always fun but highly productive. I can say without hesitation that she has made me a more integrated and open artist. I cannot recommend her enough.”
Reiko Aylesworth, Actor
“Belinda has revealed so much about the habitual things I do that I never knew. This allows me to make informed and healthy decisions. Her work is productive though gentle and fun. The studio is beautiful.”

Hayley Spivey, Actor
“I first came to Belinda because I was looking for a simple reintroduction into the Alexander Technique. What I found was a gracious, excited teacher who reminded me why I love training. Belinda is fantastic at drawing attention to our individual ways of using our bodies while prioritizing our comfort and wellbeing above all. I have learned so much about how my body moves through this world, which has helped me find the differences between me and the characters I play. I feel as though I leave class with techniques to explore on my own time while eagerly awaiting our next session. Belinda is a fantastic, warm person who knows her stuff. I am so, so grateful I found her.“
